The Creosote Council is a non-profit, tax-exempt, non-standard setting, product stewardship organization composed of the principal registrants of creosote in the United States. As part of its product stewardship role, the Council also represents North American creosote wood treaters on legislative and regulatory issues.
The Council serves as a national and international resource for accurate scientific information about the toxicology, occupational risks, and environmental behavior of creosote, and regarding the technological, economic, and environmental benefits of creosote-treated industrial wood products. As part of its creosote product stewardship role, the Council has sponsored all of the creosote health, safety, environmental, and other studies that have been required in connection with the comprehensive creosote reregistration process being conducted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
